Dan Kinvig is a communications professional based in Abbotsford, British Columbia.

I’m a professional storyteller, yet here I am struggling to string together words to tell you who I am. That’s what happens, I guess, when you spend an entire career trying not to make yourself the story.

Maybe it’ll help if I refer to myself in the third person.

Dan Kinvig was born and raised in Alberta, earned his university degree in Saskatchewan, and built his professional career in British Columbia. While he is missing one square on his Western Canadian provinces bingo card, he has never felt the need to live in Manitoba.

After graduating from the University of Regina’s School of Journalism in 2005, he landed the sports editor job at the Abbotsford (B.C.) News and spent the ensuing decade chronicling the local sports scene. In the fall of 2014, in search of a new challenge, he moved across town to the University of the Fraser Valley to join the athletic department as its communications lead, and has derived great joy from celebrating and elevating the athletes, coaches and teams at UFV. In 2022, he departed the field of communications for a new opportunity in the private sector, but remains connected via freelance engagements.

Kinvig was the University of Regina School of Journalism’s James M. Minifie award winner for 2005, and his work has been recognized by the B.C. & Yukon Community Newspaper Association, the Canadian Community Newspaper Association, the Suburban Newspapers of America, and the Canada West athletic conference.

When he isn't writing, editing, snapping photos, shooting video, designing posters, running social media channels, pitching to media outlets, or otherwise creating #content, Kinvig is most passionate about spending time with his family – wife Danielle and children Cadence (13), Caleb (11) and Bo (8). In particular, he loves taking them to the beach. His all-time favourite sports teams are the 1988-89 Calgary Flames and the 2013-14 San Antonio Spurs. He also loves volunteering at his church, running a monthly poker league for his friends, collecting sneakers, and wearing hoodies.
